Jobs

A "Job" contains a user definable sequence of "Tasks." Each Job can be launched on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, and at the specific times you wish. Each Task performs a particular action.

Each Job can be configured to perform a series of different types of Tasks. You may prioritize the sequence of these Tasks within the Job's list of Tasks. For example, an NT server can be rebooted and then a batch file can be run when it comes back online.

A Job can perform the following Tasks:

  • Email a report to one person or a group of people
  • Execute third party software
  • Execute a batch file
  • Start/Stop a Windows NT Service
  • Reboot the server
  • Wait
When creating a Job, it is a good idea to clearly define the goal that you want to accomplish. You can then proceed to plan the actions, their sequence, and the appropriate timing required to accomplish your goal. When similar goals need to be performed, you may borrow this plan, modify it, and create a new Job with it.
