Task: Start/Stop a Service

The "Start/Stop Service" Task allows you to Start or Stop a service in order to treat a service that may have leaky memory or to perform other system maintenance that requires a specific service to be stopped. When the maintenance has been performed, the service may then be resumed.

When creating a Task that starts or stops a service, you must provide the following information:
Task Name: Input a short description of the Task you are creating.
Stop Service:
Select this option if you wish the defined service to be stopped.
Start Service: Select this option if you wish the defined service to be started.
Server:
This can be either the primary IP address of the computer or the UNC name.
Example of a valid IP address: 10.20.30.11
Example of a valid of UNC name: \\exchsrv
Service:
This can be the name or the description of the Windows NT service that is to be monitored.
Examples of valid names: W3SVC, DHCP, NetDDE
Examples of valid descriptions: workstation, server, IIS Admin Service.
To obtain a list of internal service names for a server, use the "NT Services" in a new window (right click, select "Open in a new window").

Note:
ipMonitor must have permission to remotely restart services on the defined computer. Service name is the name on the left-hand side of ipMonitor’s List Network NT Service control and the description is on the right side.
