Edit Active Directory Monitor

Active Directory is the directory service offered by Windows 2000. It is an implementation of an LDAP v3 Server. A directory service is part of a distributed computing environment that provides a way to locate and identify the users and resources available in the system.

The Active Directory Monitor connects to the specified Windows 2000 server and waits for the Active Directory service to indicate that it is available. It makes a connection, performs a login sequence and makes a query. The Active Directory Monitor then safely disconnects from the server (ensuring adherence to the LDAP protocol). If any of the above sequences do not complete, ipMonitor considers a failure to have occurred.

This Monitor:

  • Considers the specified resource unavailable after a specified number of seconds.
  • Persistently tests the resource at specified intervals.
  • Disallows testing during a maintenance period.
  • Waits for a specified number of failures to occur before starting alerts.
  • Switches testing intervals, from "responding correctly" to "not responding correctly". Configurable intervals allow you to test more or less aggressively in the event of failure.
  • Stops alerting after a specified number of alerts.
  • Has a placeholder for a WinNT Service Name or any other information required by a recovery script.
