The Quality Assurance IMAP4 Monitor tests an SMTP mail server's ability to accept mail and distribute it to an IMAP4 mail server as well as the ability of the IMAP4 mail server to log on users.
It sends an email message that contains a special id to the specified account (obeying any mail distribution rules applied in "Site Settings").
Several attempts are made to pick up this mail before the test expires. It connects to the specified IMAP4 mail server, logs on with the provided account and password information and then scans the inbox for this special message. If this message is found it is marked as deleted and all "deleted mail" is cleaned.
Note: It is recommended that a specific account be created for the purpose of QA IMAP4 testing. If a shared account tries to log in at the same time when ipMonitor is testing the server, the account attempting to log in will be disconnected.
This Monitor:
- Considers the specified resource unavailable after a specified number of seconds.
- Persistently tests the resource at specified intervals.
- Disallows testing during a maintenance period.
- Waits for a specified number of failures to occur before starting alerts.
- Switches testing intervals, from "responding correctly" to "not responding correctly". Configurable intervals allow you to test more or less aggressively in the event of failure.
- Stops alerting after a specified number of alerts.
- Has a placeholder for a WinNT Service Name or any other information required by a recovery script.
