ipMonitor 6.1
Edit RADIUS Monitor
< BackIndexNext >

The RADIUS Monitor tests an authentication server's ability to perform an internal database lookup and respond to an authentication query.

After constructing and sending a valid login request, the RADIUS Monitor waits for the server to respond within the "timeout intervals".

A "secret" is a key that helps perform a one-way encryption of the transaction required by RADIUS servers for the transmission of passwords.

Note: Depending on your RADIUS solution, you may not need to provide account information or a "secret". When invalid account information is provided your authentication solution may send negative responses instead of quietly discarding requests. If this occurs ipMonitor will accept that the service is available.

Note: The process of authentication and login require a more in-depth transaction than is performed by the RADIUS Monitor so there is no reason for concern that the Monitor could log into the RADIUS server using the account information provided during configuration.

This Monitor:

  • Considers the specified resource unavailable after a specified number of seconds.
  • Persistently tests the resource at specified intervals.
  • Disallows testing during a maintenance period.
  • Waits for a specified number of failures to occur before starting alerts.
  • Switches testing intervals, from "responding correctly" to "not responding correctly". Configurable intervals allow you to test more or less aggressively in the event of failure.
  • Stops alerting after a specified number of alerts.
  • Has a placeholder for a WinNT Service Name or any other information required by a recovery script.
